One of the most common questions we get before a rental is what's actually allowed in the container. Getting this right avoids surprise fees on pickup day.

Generally fine: household junk, furniture, general construction debris, yard waste, and standard cleanout material — the everyday stuff that makes up most residential and commercial projects.

Not accepted, and will trigger extra charges if found: hazardous chemicals, paint, certain types of batteries, tires, appliances with regulated components (like refrigerators with refrigerant), and other items restricted by the landfill we work with.

How to Pick the Right Dumpster Size for Your Hampton Roads Project

Choosing a dumpster size comes down to two things: how much space your debris will take up, and how heavy it is. Get either one wrong and you're either paying for empty space or hitting weight limits before the container's even full. For a single-room cleanout or a small landscaping job, a 10-yard dumpster is usually plenty — think one large piece of furniture plus several trash bags, or a modest yard debris haul. Bathroom or kitchen remodels, garage cleanouts, and mid-size renovation debris typically call for a 15-yard. Whole-home cleanouts, larger renovations, and roofing tear-offs (shingles are heavy — this matters more than volume) usually need a 20-yard. Major construction debris, large additions, or commercial cleanouts are where a 30-yard makes sense. Weight matters as much as size. Concrete, brick, dirt, and roofing shingles are dense — a relatively small pile of any of these can hit a dumpster's weight limit long before it looks full.
